Southern Maryland Restaurant Review - The Wayfarer
Wayfarer
Colony South Hotel
Upon entering Colony South Hotel you are immediately aware of the understated Southern elegance. The warm atmosphere quietly surrounds you as you make your way to the Wayfarer Restaurant. The welcome is genuine and inviting by the staff at the front desk and as you make your way to your table, you can’t help but notice how comfortable everyone looks while dining in this establishment.
The Wayfarer is known for it’s Northern Italian and Regional cuisine. The appetizer menu offers a good mix of local favorites as well as some Italian specialties. Start out with Fried Calamari, Bruschetta, Clams Casino or one I found particularly interesting, Oysters Fiorentina, fresh oysters with spinach and parmesan cheese. There are also several soups and salads to choose from if that’s your preference.
The entrees are creative and generous and it’s fairly obvious that the chef is making every effort to prepare beef, chicken, fish and pasta in a way that everyone can find something that they like. There are six different veal dishes, including Veal Oscar, Veal Marsala and Veal Piccata. There are also six different chicken entrees including Chicken Romana, Chicken Primavera and Chicken Parmigiana. The Wayfarer also serves up a wide selection of pasta, fish and seafood entrees all with an Italian flair.
The Wayfarer offers private rooms for intimate gatherings, a delicious daily lunch buffet and a champagne brunch on Sundays. Top off your evening with a nightcap and live entertainment at The Decoy Lounge next door or if it’s a special occasion, reserve one of Colony South’s luxurious rooms for the night.
