Southern Maryland Restaurant Review - St Marys landing
St. Mary's Landing
by Cindy Lantz
We're travelling a little further south for this month's restaurant review but we think it's well worth the trip. St. Mary's Landing, named for the county its located in, was a fixture for years before it was bought and renamed "Charlotte Hall House of Ribs". The business was purchased recently by Kevin Hill, the son of William Hill who coincidentally owned "The Halfway House", another county fixture recently torn down and replaced with a "Wawa". Both establishments were fondly known as the only independently owned restaurants in Southern Maryland that served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hill is reviving that rarely seen family style dining.
The menu is a jam-packed compilation of home cooking and Southern Maryland tradition. Where else will you find crab cakes, baby back ribs, liver & onions, fried oysters, soft shell crabs, prime rib, breaded catfish, grilled pork chops and Southern Maryland's famous stuffed ham all in one restaurant. They also have an extensive breakfast menu with combinations cleverly named after local towns. The lunch menu is equally impressive in it's variety and the prices are reasonable.
I spoke with supervisor, Sue Riege at length about the restaurants new "face". In their commitment to making sure they maintain the establishments local flair, the management has decided to display the works of county artists. Currently on display is the photography of Stu Geisbert. They hope to have several more artists and their works for you to view in the future.
St. Mary's Landing's quaint décor, quality food and friendly, down-to-earth servers will make you feel like you and your family is dining at your kitchen table. We offer them a heartfelt, "Welcome Back!"
