Schools, Health, Transportation
The children of St. Charles are served by the Charles County Public Schools system, which operates nine schools in the area. A new high school is scheduled to open in August 2013. Twenty of U.S. News’ “Best Colleges,” including Georgetown University, are within 30 miles of St. Charles. Emergency medical care is available at the Civista Medical Center in nearby La Plata. Three Amtrak stations are located within 20 miles of St. Charles, and include: Alexandria, Lorton, and Woodbridge. Residents who work in Washington, D.C. will find the commute to be just about an hour.
